Today the federal government announced $55.7million over the three years for Community Legal Centres and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services.
This is great news for thousands of women and children fleeing family violence who depend on these services to keep them safe.
The Never Alone community helped make this happen.
Earlier this year, over 14,000 Never Alone supporters signed on to Rosie’s letter to the Prime Minister asking him to intervene to reverse the looming cuts to community legal services.
And he heard our calls. With advocacy from you, and backed up by many in the legal and community sectors, the government has acted to provide additional resources to the community legal sector.
All the details are yet to be released but the government has said that this funding will be prioritised for women and children in family violence situations.
This is a significant recognition of the incredible work of those in the community and Aboriginal legal sectors and the increasing need of women and children fleeing violence and abuse.
